FAQ’s and More Information
How many people are going?
We are a group of 12 plus 2 leaders (Stu and Fran).
What type of yoga retreat is it? I’m only a beginner so are the classes suitable for me?
We will practice different styles of yoga which will be suitable for beginners and more advanced students. Stu (your host) will teach some of the classes and we will also get to experience local Indian teachers too, so you get a full yogic experience. All teachers are very experienced and offer posture variations so accommodate different abilities.
Where do we stay and what’s the sleeping arrangements?
We stay in a beautiful 3 star resort just a few minutes walk from the beach, shops and restaurants. It’s a quiet location in lush tropical surroundings and has a warm swimming pool, onsite ayurevedic wellness center, yoga studio and restaurant. The rooms all have either 2 single beds or a queen size bed, full air conditioning, ensuite bathroom and a balcony.
What’s the food like? Is it really spicy and do you accommodate dietary requirements?
We will eat breakfast each morning in our hotel before starting our day, followed by either lunch or dinner outside of the hotel, so we can experience different restaurants and local dishes. The food is not spicy and there will be a wide selection of different dishes to sample during each meal. We will be eating vegetarian dishes, although when you go out to eat yourself there are wonderful fresh fish and meat options available, as well as fresh juices, and smoothies. We will do our best to accommodate dietary requirements but cannot guarantee certain dietary restrictions so please speak to our nutritionist Fran before booking.
Who are the leaders, and will I be safe travelling on my own?
Stu and Fran will be your guides during the 10 day retreat. Stu has run 2 retreats to Kerala previously and has travelled extensively throughout India, since 2004. Both Fran and Stu have been running retreats for more than 10 years, both in the UK and abroad and pride themselves on creating a safe and fun adventure for their guests. Varkala is in the state of Kerala and is a very safe tourist destination offering a relaxed vibe. You will see many female tourists and locals walking on their own in Varkala from early in the morning until late at night.
What excursions and trips are included?
We pride ourselves on offering you a complete India experience beyond the standard yoga retreat and so all excursions are included in the price. We travel in a private air conditioned mini bus. You will enjoy trips to famous temples, private house boat trip through the backwaters, different beaches, waterfalls, coffee plantations, the elephant sanctuary, nature reserve and of course shopping. All trips are optional of course and you’re welcome to just enjoy a quiet day by the pool if you prefer. There will also be optional extras such as ayurevedic massage and treatments which Kerala is famous for and surfing too.
How do we get to the resort from the airport?
